Prarie Math Club Moves on to State Competition
The Middle School Math Club had great success in the recent Mathcounts Competition on February 12. A team of four took 1st Place, and will move on to the State competition in Madison on March 5. Those team members included Sapan Shah, 8th grade (placed 2nd individually); Mateo Garcia-Novelli, 8th grade (placed 3rd individually); Roman Palvanov, 8th grade (placed 5th individually); and Sandeep Reddy, 7th grade (placed 10th individually). Josh Bote, a 6th grader, finished 9th individually and qualified to move on the State competition as well.
“To have five of our students finish in the top 10 competitors is quite an achievement,” said Mr. Huizinga, Math Club advisor. “I had high expectations for them after last year’s second place showing, and am very proud of their performance.” Mr. Huizinga added that this is the second time he can recall that Prairie students qualified a team as well as an individual for State, and also have all four team members finish in the top ten.
