I have a question. It is my understanding that the school board allocated an additional $150,000.00 to get the facility ready so they could move in over the Spring Break. (this is for overtime costs, etc that the contractors will bear... so I am told) My question is.... What was the rush? Will the additional $150,000.00 investment be offset by something? When it is complete there will be little more than 30 days left of school... couldn't this have waited until summer time or is the value of moving during that time sufficient to cover the extra costs to do so?
$150,000.00 is equal to 3 new teacher salaries for a year. Was this really the best use of our tax payer monies?

Patrick: The expenditure you're referring to was approved by the School Board at its March 21 meeting that I covered for Patch.
According to my notes, the board approved spending $359,852 to construct a new server room, including concrete work and raised flooring. The district had budgeted $250,000 for this project. The difference will come from about $300,000 budgeted for contingencies.
The server room project was scheduled over Spring Break because that time period would be the least disruptive to district operations. The spring time frame was also preferable over summer because the district is expected to vacate the current Administrative Service Center site on Northwestern Avenue by late August.
