Wondering what to do with your Christmas tree now that the holiday season is over?

Well… you’ve got options.

The Village of Caledonia contracts with John’s Disposal Service for garbage pick-up. All you need to do is drag it out to the curb the day of your garbage pick-up. But take note, the garbage service is delayed by one day because of the holiday and the schedule will go back to normal after this week.

But if you want to have a little more ceremony around the end of the holiday season, you can bring your Christmas tree to St. Michael’s Church, 4701 Erie St.

They host an event called the Burning of the Greens from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 6 where everyone brings their holiday greenery, and they have a large bonfire. The parishioners bring their own chili from home and put it all together, then eat it outside as they “bring Christ’s light into the world.”

According to Wikipedia, the religious significance of doing this is that it marks the end of the “Twelfth Night of Christmas,” or Epiphany. The bonfire represents the “Light of Christ.”

So you can bring your Christmas tree unceremoniously out to the curb or enjoy the Christmas season a little longer.
