Democrat Rob Zerban Q3 Fundraising Outpaces Paul Ryan
Congressman Paul Ryan's challenger in the race for the 1st District raised $200,000 more than Ryan during the third quarter of 2012.
Democrat Rob Zerban announced Thursday that his third quarter fundraising outpaced US Rep. Paul Ryan during the same time period.
According to a written release, Zerban brought in about $770,000 compared to Ryan's $566,000.
“The amount of support coming in from across the country has been absolutely overwhelming,” said Rob Zerban. “We’re seeing an unprecedented grassroots movement against Paul Ryan’s plot to gut Medicare and student loans, in favor of common-sense solutions that work for Wisconsin’s working families. At this rate, Ryan’s headed for a rude wake-up call in November.”
The statement says that 96 percent of Zerban contributors wrote checks for $100 or less. Total contributions come to about $1.97 million.
Despite this success, though, Zerban trails Ryan overall in fundraising by a margin of two-to-one. According to a story in The Journal Times, Ryan's campaign warchest comes to about $4 million.
A press release from the Ryan campaign says the congressman's fundraising balance is impressive because the campaign hasn't been actively seeking contributions since Ryan was chosen as Republican Mitt Romney's running mate.
“The outpouring of support that Congressman Ryan’s campaign has seen in recent months shows that voters are hungry for leaders capable of solving the problems we face as a nation. Congressman Ryan has done precisely that, leading with proposals that reduce our $16 trillion debt, that make our tax code more competitive, and that get our economy back on track,” said Ryan Campaign Manager Kevin Seifert in the release.
Patch and WGTD Radio still anticipate hosting a live candidates forum with both Zerban and Ryan on Oct. 25 at Gateway Technical College in Racine.
Zerban has confirmed his participation, and we have let the Ryan campaign know that the congressman can be part of the debate via Skype or video feed if he can't be there in person. We are still waiting on confirmation from Seifert about whether or not Ryan will utilize this option.

Wouldn't it be more fun and productive if Zerban contributers just strike a match and create a bonfire with all those Zerban contributions? At least they can roast marshmallows with it, instead of contributing to "BIG Media." I thought profits were bad? This is soooo confusing!

Hoffa thought that blue fisters hated outsiders interfering in our internal electoral politics.
"“The amount of support coming in from across the country has been absolutely overwhelming,” said Rob Zerban."
Shouldn't Zerban send all that out-of-state money back to where it came from?

Well no, Hoffa, but that is because we don't think like liberals. Blue fisters don't consider themselves outsiders, even if their membership is nationwide. That is why they conduct "peaceful protests" at the Wisconsin Capitol building, and call themselves concerned local citizens.
This means there is a "nationwide groundswell of support" or other such high-minded noble rationalization going on here. My word for it is hippocrats!

Paul Ryan Outraised In Home District by Congressional Opponent
According to this story from the Janesville Gazette, Paul Ryan's spokesperson, Kevin Seifert, considers Democratic opponent Rob Zerban's request for debates nothing more than a "stunt" and implies that Zerban should explain his positions on critical issues and articulate solutions to the problems facing the nation. Knock - knock. Hello? Hello? Isn't that precisely what debates are for?
But if the latest fundraising numbers reported by the Zerban campaign are any sign of his surging popularity, it is also a sign of rejection for Paul Ryan and his 14 year stranglehold on the district. Perhaps district constituents have already made up their mind on the absentee congressman. ..........

Zerban would have to actually gain an understanding of the issues and come up with a platform, instead of just merely trashing Ryan all the time - do you honestly think he's capable of doing that?
Zerban hasn't proven himself to be capable of doing anything other than trashing Ryan. He brings nothing to the table as far as viable solutions are concerned.
Batter to face reality now than be disappointed later - Zerban is little more than another Tom Barrett and will meet the same fate on November 6th!

Ryan will NEVER debate Zerban. I understand that debating Biden is a priority, but when that one debate is over after next week Ryan owes it to the people in his district (like me) to defend his crappy ideas against his challenger for his seat in the house. What a wus! He knows he can't defend stupid...

This is much too important for people to ignore. Romney said at the debate his health care plan will cover pre-existing conditions. HE LIED. His plan does not cover pre-existing conditions and will leave millions without insurance. Romney's staffer admitted Romney gave the wrong information but Romney will not "man up" and admit to this lie. Paul Ryan needs to lose his Congressional seat or this barrage on Medicare and Social Security will continue. Rob Zerban will fit in Ryan's chair nicely.

@Carolo -
Could you please explain what Zerban's/Obama's/Biden's plan is to keep Medicare and SS from going bankrupt and how he would balance the federal budget.
Don't worry, Hoffa won't be holding his breath waiting for you to respond!
Obama has already said that his plan is nothing more than to continue to kick the can down the road for future generations to deal with. Obama doesn't care and hasn't come up a viable plan of his own - he just wants to be re-elected so can continue to enjoy the perks of being President for another four years on our dime. And Zerban is little more than an Obama parrot.
Romney/Ryan actually have a plan - time to let the adults back in!

From the Zerban Website
"Medicare is cheaper and better than private health insurance. I oppose efforts to privatize Medicare by voucher, premium support, or other Republican gimmicks. This is a big gift to private health insurance companies at the expense of seniors.
I support keeping the prescription drug donut hole closed and will oppose any efforts to reopen it.
I support comparative effectiveness research and other scientific approaches to allow physicians the information they need to reduce the cost of care while raising the quality.
I support efforts by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and others to fight waste and fraud in the system and support increased sentencing penalties for health care fraud.
I support allowing Medicare to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs. This removes a huge cost Republicans added to the Medicare program in order to appease lobbyists"
During his town hall events he said he also supports a medicare for all system.
I oppose efforts to privatize Social Security and endanger the funds by placing them into the stock market. This benefits large financial interests, not seniors.
I support strengthening Social Security by lifting the cap on taxable income so the program will remain fiscally sound without raising the retirement age, changing COLAs, or otherwise reducing or altering benefits.
More details are on his website.

@Matt -
How will Zerban pay for the Medicare for all program he proposes? Or keep the current program from going bankrupt without changing something? Fighting waste, fraud, and abuse is great, as is permitting the federal government to negotiate the amount that they pay for prescription drugs, but in reality, that just scratches the surface and doesn't really address the fiscal crisis that the Medicare trustee is projecting in the near future.
Also, how would Zerban encourage all the new doctors that would be necessary in a Medicare for all system, while at the same time telling doctors that they would have to work longer hours for less pay under such a system? Would he force them via armed soldiers posted at hospitals? Sounds like a nation bankrupting disaster if you ask Hoffa!
Looks like his only answers in regards to SS are raising taxes and fundamentally transforming the program into a wealth redistribution scheme by forcing the wealthy to pay more money into the system than they'll ever get back out of the system. This goes against the stated intentions and goals of the SS program found within its enabling statute. Oh, and he'll reduce benefits.
So in other words, Zerban is a socialist/communist.
Why not just treat people like adults, instead of like little children, and let people keep, save, and invest their own money for the future?
No thanks on Zerban - Hoffa prefers freedom and choice!

"(In 2011, the CBO determined that the federal health care law would reduce Medicare outlays by $507 billion between 2012 and 2021. In a more recent estimate released this year, the CBO looked at the years 2013 to 2022 and determined the health care law affected Medicare outlays by $716 billion.
So it’s timing that’s making the cuts bigger, not changes to Medicare. And the cuts are from future spending, not the program’s current budget.
Romney said, "on Medicare for current retirees, (Obama) is cutting $716 billion from the program."
That amount -- $716 billion -- refers to Obamacare’s reductions in Medicare spending over 10 years, primarily paid to insurers and hospitals. But the statement gives the impression that the law takes money already allocated to Medicare away from current recipients.
We rate his statement Half True.)"

According to Treasury analysis based on congressional budget office data, about 90 percent of the shift from surpluses to deficits between 2001 and 2011 is attributable to Bush administration policies and the effects of the recession. Fifty Nine Percent Of The Shift From Surplus To Deficit By 2011 Is Directly Attributable To Bush Administration Policies And Twenty Nine Is Due To Updated Economic And Demographic Shifts, While Only 12 Percent Is Attributable To Obama Administration Policies.
The private sector employment has grown for 23 straight months. The economy has grown for 10 straight quarters, overall business investment is growing, corporate profits are up, as are investments in equipment and software. Exports have been a source of strength, TARP's bank programs have generated positive returns, the projected overall cost of TARP has fallen dramatically, and auto industry employment has grown. If Obama is a socialist, he is the worst socialist ever.

“I don’t have a $5 trillion tax cut. I don’t have a tax cut of a scale that you’re talking about.” A Tax Policy Center analysis of Romney’s proposal for a 20 percent across-the-board tax cut in all federal income tax rates, eliminating the Alternative Minimum Tax, eliminating the estate tax and other tax reductions, would reduce federal revenue $480 billion in 2015. This amounts to $5 trillion over the decade.
