Former President Bill Clinton in Milwaukee Friday for Tom Barrett

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett might get a boost from having a high-profile guest in the form of former President Bill Clinton visit Milwaukee on Friday.

**Updated 8 am, June 1

Could Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett get a boost from a Friday visit from former President Bill Clinton? At the very least, having Clinton stump for Barrett probably can't hurt.

Numbers from the most recent poll out of Marquette University Law School put Barrett seven points behind Gov. Scott Walker, 45 to 52 percent.

The No Quarter Blog at jsonline.com is reporting that Clinton will speak at a Barrett event at 10 am in Pere Marquette Park in downtown Milwaukee.

According to the blog post, former Rep. Dave Obey was the primary force urging  Clinton to make an appearance supporting Barrett's run for governor against Walker in the June 5 recall election.

If you are referring to the John Doe lies
1) He initiated that investigation because he found wrong doings.
2) He can't release the emails because it is just that an investigation.
3) AND MOST IMPORTANT the recall was not about character - it was about collective bargaining - funny that's not being discuss by the democrats AT ALL - WHY???????????? Because it WORKED!!!! So on that basis there should be no recall.

I'll just point out that the bright star who was pushing for Clinton's impeachment, Newt "Moon Colony" Gingrich, was having a full-on affair of his own.

I'll also just say that the nation's capital is a churning rumor and not-so-rumor mill. The few scandals (sex and/or otherwise) that sift to the national news are the tip of the iceberg, both sides of the aisle, usually because of disgruntled staff (remember the recent rumors that Ron Johnson was about to fire his entire staff) or rivals.

I thought Barrett was focussing his campaign on jobs, or did that go to the wayside when the Feds confirmed Walker's jobs numbers as correct?

If Barrett is still committed to jobs, then why bring in the man who gave us NAFTA, which was single handedly responsible for killing thousands of union jobs in the UAW alone?

Walker needs to jump on this and use it effectively!

The reasons I support Governor Walker:
Eliminated 3.6 BILLION dollar deficit
Balanced the budget
Without raising taxes
And without massive layoffs
Or cuts in services
(at least for those governments that chose to use them)
Lowered property taxes for first time in years
Returned power to local governments
Voter ID

@Randy-But the bottom line is that we voted for Walker. We feel that Walker is doing a great job and up to this point we are satisfied with his performance. So for your side to recall him on the basis of not agreeing is completely wrong. And if by chance your candidate happens to win which we know will not happen but if he does then basically my vote meant absolutely nothing. It is totally wrong for a group of people to have the power to change my vote or basically cancel my vote out just because they disagree!! Again Walker did nothing illegal at all!! Again if your choice happens to win that will divide this State like never before. Because you will have said to those who voted for Walker in 2010 that their vote was meaningless!! A democrocy is not supposed to funtion as such

Comment_arrow

Randy1949

@Patriot -- I think you replied to the wrong post. But if the pro-Walker side still has the majority, your vote won't be meaningless. If Walker is voted out, that means that he annoyed enough people to lose his majority. A win in an election doesn't mean the right to do what you damn well please for four years over the strenuous objections of half of the population you are supposed to represent.

As for a vote being meaningless, now you know how I feel living in Sensenbrenner-land.

Randy1949

@Patriot -- There was a plan, no matter what your candidate keeps insisting. All you have to do is listen. Shared sacrifice, with everyone being brought to the table. People will cooperate if you present your case and let them feel as if they have some power over their destiny.

That is something your guy never understood. All he understands is cramming things down people's throats, preferably done in secret. It's the hallmark of a mediocre mind, and it's the reason he's unfit to lead. He always has been.

Learn the difference between facts and interpretation, Patriot. Although with Walker, you can't even be sure of the facts sometimes.

Comment_arrow

James R Hoffa

12:07 pm on Friday, June 1, 2012

@Randy1949 -

"Shared sacrifice, with everyone being brought to the table."

What does that mean exactly? Is Barrett going to raise taxes? How is Barrett, as Governor, going to negotiate with union locals on an individual school district / municipality basis all over the state, as he claimed he would last night? And if he did, wouldn't that be a severe overreach of the powers of Governor, not to mention a usurping of local elected leaders' power? Is Barrett going to undo the property tax freeze? What is Barrett going to cut from the budget to alleviate the deficit? In the last debate, Barrett slammed Walker for restructuring some of the state's previously acquired debt. How will Barrett approach the issue regarding our previously acquired debt? Will Barrett refrain from issuing new public debt offerings on the Wisconsin credit card, as Walker has thus far?

Barrett refuses to answer ALL of these questions - WHY??? If we look at his record in Milwaukee, for guidance, here is how we can answer these questions:

Raise taxes - YES, and significantly
Unions - Give them everything they want
Property tax freeze - That will be dust in the wind
Budget cuts - None
Restructuring debt - All of it
New debt - At record levels

So, let me ask you this Randy - why do you hate our future generations so much for that you'd vote for Barrett, a man who will undoubtedly saddle them with even more of our debts and current problems?

Comment_arrow

Randy1949

12:35 pm on Friday, June 1, 2012

@JRH -- No, I don't hate the generations to come. I have a son, a grandson, and other progeny yet to come, whom I love dearly. I actually listened to what Tom Barrett was saying last night.

People will make sacrifices as long as those sacrifices are evenly applied. They will make sacrifices as long as they are kept informed and persuaded it's for the common good. They don't respond well when they're treated like enemies right out of the starting gate.

Tom Barrett was right -- He and Scott Walker would not have been on that stage last night if Walker had accepted the unions' offer to make concessions. No, he had to make it permanent. His style of leadership -- crush your enemies and keep them down -- is lacking and it's disastrous in the long run. It leads to a lack of trust. Especially when one group of people seems to be getting the breaks at the expense of another.

I don't want my descendants to have to live in a state where one party can take power and then run the government like a dictatorship.

Comment_arrow

Patriot

12:38 pm on Friday, June 1, 2012

@Randy-That is exactly what Gov Walker did. Make this more equal for everyone. He brought the public sector inline with the private sector!! So where is the uneven equality that you speak of. Also if its about collective bargainig then why are you not standing up to Obama and asking him why your fellow Federal Counterparts are without collective bargaining when it comes to wages and benefits? Hmmmmm seems like a double standard here.

Comment_arrow

Randy1949

12:49 pm on Friday, June 1, 2012

@Patriot -- I'll debate with Hoffa because he's both civil and intelligent.

For me, this is not so much about collective bargaining as it is about Scott Walker's dictatorial style of governing. And it's about trust. When a man says one thing to the public and the opposite to wealthy donors, there is no trust.

How many Democratic jokers can a country have for their Prez in such a short time and still expect to retain their dignity and honor! Backwards Barrett and Clinton, what a couple of Homers!

So if I have this straight, Barrett accused Walker of wanting to make Wisconsin a right to work state, and he is bringing in the former governor of a right to work state to campaign for him? He is bringing in Clinton who actively opposed the recall to Grey Davis to support him in this recall attempt! He is talking about character and he is the guy to trust, but is bringing in a politician who was almost impeached for impropriety. Wreaks of desperation in my book!

Thank you! You are so right but...I think Bill is still confused about how you define sex...and now "Recall". Hm mm...a Rhodes Scholar that is now confused about more that one commonly used word in the English language. Well Bill...what little respect I may have had for you is now dwindling. We should have impeached you! Then you would now have a better idea of what "Recall" is. Bill...can you define Disenfranchise???

I'm very glad Mr. Clinton is coming to Wisconsin. I hated him when he was president... I was a self-righteous 'Christian' back then too! I've matured and am no longer willing to 'cast the first stone'..... we'll leave that to those without sin! Today, in Wisconsin, we face a governor who wants to "divide and conquer". We know who his allies are in this endever, Billionaires and the right-wing who together hope to persuade the rest of us that they have our best interests in mind, that we are not the ones being conquered! Wake up Wisconsin. Listen to Bill Clinton the sinner rather than Scott Walker the lier and friend of Father of lies.

I'm not sure what your point is Uncle D, but what I've said has nothing to do with being hit in the head, it has to do with knowing and believing what I believe is the truth. First truth taught to fundamental Christians is this, "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." and "There is none righteous, no not one!" For those that wish to hy-jack Mr. Clintons visit to Wisconsin by relishing the memory of Mr. Clintons sin, they must know nothing of a man named David and a woman name Bathsheba. They must know nothing that "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." To the issue, I think Mr. Clinton was a far better leader to the poor and middle class than the right-wing governors and president who carry the water for billionaires. I can't wait to cast... not a stone, but a vote... on Tuesday, not against Mr. Walker but for Mr. Barette, one who I think represents the real values of my Christianity.

Horns, Your logic is lacking. You seem to not have a reason to vote "for" Barrett, that is sad. That equates to finding Jesus, because he is "not" the devil. Would it not be better to have found Jesus for the things he did for us, such as dying for our sins? I will vote for Governor Walker for ballancing our budget and not raising taxes, while you will blindly follow Barrett for the sole reason that he is "not Walker".

Hey Greg, I know my logic is lacking (in my post), because I haven't chosen to elaborate on it all! So let me add a little for your benefit. Governor Walker has 'balanced' the budget by cutting education (poor decision), taking millions of dollars that were supposed to go to folks who have lost there homes due to banking shenanigans (misappropriation at best, stealing at the worst), demanding that public sector employees bare all the burden of paying the debt (unfair, but seems fair for everyone that didn't have to sacrifice to pay for the budget) and placing a mess of the debt on 'credit' to be paid by future generations. In addition, governor Walker used the budget crisis (created by governor Walker when he first gave out big tax cuts to business and billionaires) to attack his political rivals. He asked that union talks be held up until he was governor so he could negotiate... but then announced that he had nothing to negotiate! Governor Walker attempted to sell state owned facilities without a bidding process and is willing to sacrifice Wisconsin's environment for business profits! Now, there is wind that public lands will be sold off to the wealthy and hunting rights for citizens will be gained only through paying very highly for hunting privileges! So in reality, I'm not blindly following Barrett but seeing the Walker regime with different eyes than yours and hoping that Barrett means what he has said about bringing back the type of government Wisconsin used to enjoy.

Not true Uncle D. I am not defending Bill Clinton's infidelity. He did 'it', everyone knows he did 'it', and many people believe what Bill did was wrong. What I'm defending is something that the one who started my belief system claimed is the truth, that we all do wrong, each one of us, in our own way. I flip-flop, I offend, and I'm self-righteous, so does/is everyone else in this state and nation. Former President Clinton is not up for election on Tuesday but Tom Barrett is, I'm voting for Tom because I really don't like the way things gotten done over the last two years. I'm glad Bill Clinton is coming to Wisconsin because I have come to admire the leadership that he provided to this nation. Yup, Bill had a little problem with his sex thingee, so has (pardon the spelling Unions_no) Mr. Weiner, Mr. Ensign, Mr. Vitter, Mr. Kilpatrick, Mr. Craig, Mr. Frank, Mr. Spitzer, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Schwarzenegger, Mr Haggard, Priest, Preachers, and many Parishioners. Infidelity is quite common in America and crosses all political and religious strata. Many people forgive, and are forgiven, and move on. Others never forgive, and are apparently never forgiven.

Good point Patriot, Bill Was nearly Impeached and Mr. Walker will be, or nearly be, recalled from his appointment as governor next Tuesday. If Mr Walker is recalled, will that disqualify him from future speaking opportunities? Probably not, life goes on. NAFTA? Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. The Jobs that I've noticed leaving this nation are going to China, Bangladesh, Viet Nam. All the stuff that used to be made in Japan is now made in China. If you don't like Bill Clinton, don't go see him. Don't listen to what he has to say. Turn on Fox news and Rush, I'm sure they'll only include sound bites that support your preferred beliefs. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see Bill in person, I have to get on off-to-work, so you'all have a nice afternoon. Hugs!

You claim to be voting for Barrett because you believe his policies will improve things for the poor and needy. Well, he's been the Mayor of the City of Milwaukee for the past 8 years, and under his policies, poverty and need in the city have INCREASED exponentially.

You may want to rethink your reasoning here, as there seems to be a serious depart from logic and reality!

Step by step there Patriot. When the Republicans began the recall madness ( oh yes, it began with right-wing republicans filing recall papers against three democrats days before democrats returned the favor) they thought to show the democrats a thing or two. But, a funny thing happened, no democrats were recalled but two republicans were. Not to worry republicans cackled, you didn't win the senate, so you still lost! Then came the mine bill and Senator Schultz bucked the tea party and we found it really did matter, and it really did change things. Not to worry republicans cackle, you commie left-wing, thugs, hollywood, Washington insiders are gonna loose on Tuesday. Yup! The far right is on a roll and you-all got the elections locked up. Might as well kick back and watch the win happen on Tuesday... shucks, you probably don't even need to go vote. I mean, you've won!

@Horns-Hysterical!! My god you have me on the floor rolling. Who are you trying to kid? Your side was calling for a recall before Gov Walker even took office. It was leaked by the media saying the Unions were calling for a recall immediately!! So again there you go putting the liberal spin on it. The left began this process and we all know it. Funny how your so confident that Barrett will win considering the man has not led a single pole since this began. Barrett has NO PLAN what so ever!! The people who voted Walker in still stand behind their vote as well as many of your side has choosen to vote for Walker as well because you have made this recall a laughing stock of the nation. With no real platform it went from Act 10, to jobs, to women, to John Doe. Your side has desperately tried to get something to stick with all the mud slinging.
Its ok I understand you really cant help it. You have been brainwashed your entire life and u struggle with the reality of whats real and fanatsy!!! Its ok we understand and after Walkers Victory your welcome to join the rest of us in moving this State forward

Patriot, sorry to burst your sincerely held beliefs with facts, but the recall papers against the three democrats were filled in February I believe, and the democrat response did not materialize until March 2nd or 5th or something like that. I don't have time to research the exact dates, but the facts of history cannot be denied. Republicans filed first, democrats second! Those are historical facts that are verifiable. I really hate to leave you laughing on the floor like this my friend, but I really do have to be off to work now.

O.K. my friend, one last post as I head out the door. Yes, the recall of Governor Walker had to wait until he was in for a full year. That's different than what I'm calling the recall madness that was set in motion by the recall petitions filed against three democrats (none successful) and then answered with the recall petitions filed agains 6 republicans (two successful). So yes, try not to become confused as to what is being referred to. Governor Walker's recall and the recall madness initiated by republicans are two separate events.
