Wind Point resident Sean Forester-Hoare will spend at least 40 years in prison for killing Jonathan Kwiatkowski.

Forester-Hoare attacked his neighbor on April 4, 2011, after he got upset over the way Kwiatkowski was driving. During an altercation in the driveway of the Kwiatkowski home, Forester-Hoare took out a knife and stabbed the other man in the neck.

, saying the Kwiatkowski family attacked him, and that he wildly struck out with the knife in an effort to get free. But a jury convicted him of homicide and two counts of recklessly endangering safety.

Even at his sentencing hearing, Forester-Hoare continued to minimize his actions and said that what had happened wasn’t intentional.

"I didn't start the fight... I didn't commit homicide," he said Monday afternoon.

But Racine County Circuit Court Judge Allan "Pat" Torhorst sentenced Forester-Hoare on Monday to life plus eight years in prison. The life sentence was given on the homicide charge. The eight years were given for the two counts of recklessly endangering safety — four years for each count — and are to be served consecutive to the life sentence.

Jonathan's father Tim Kwiatkowski told Torhorst that he and his family were forced to watch Jonathan die in the most brutal way.

"How do you describe to someone the loss of a son? Other than with the simple word — devastating," he said. "How do you explain watching your son bleeding to death in his mother's arms, other than with the simple word — devastating?"

With a cross necklace wrapped around her hand as she read her victim witness statement, Jonathan's mother Lori Kwiatkowski wept as she told Torhorst that her home was no longer home, that nothing feels real and she can't wake up from this nightmare.

"My John boy was a momma's boy and he wasn't ashamed to admit it," she said. "... I am so thankful that as his mother when he was born he was put into my arms and when he left this world he was in my arms surrounded by love and his family. No parent should have to scrape that low for something to be thankful for.”

Jane Forester-Hoare, Sean's mother, turned to Tim and Lori and said she was so sorry that they had lost their son. Lori buried her head into Tim’s arms and refused to look at Jane.

“We both had very good families,” Jane said.

She went on to explain that Sean would often go out of his way to help people and would bring people that needed help to their house to stay.

“I’m going to say something that is going to seem cruel to a lot of people, but I’m very proud of my son,” She said. “He is a wonderful man and I love him dearly. And the night that this tragedy happened is a blip compared to the rest of his life. And I’m not going to say anything more than it was tragic.”

Forester-Hoare may petition for release on extended supervision after spending 40 years in prison.
