A 19-year-old Caledonia man is accused of beating another man along highway 31 after an altercation took place earlier in a nearby apartment.
Michael Lee Mehevic Jr. was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with one count of disorderly conduct and one count of battery. If convicted, he faces up to one year in prison and $11,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 7:19 a.m. Sunday, Mehevic was inside his apartment with his girlfriend and several other people in the 6600 block of Highway 31, when he got into an argument with his girlfriend. She was upset with Mehevic due to his prescription pill addiction and during the argument; Mehevic picked up a knife and held it to his own throat, telling the woman he didn’t want to live.
At that time other people in the apartment knocked the door open to the room where the two were fighting and Mehevic decided to leave and walk to his mother’s house.
While walking down Highway 31, one of the men who had been at the apartment and several other people showed up in a car and pulled over to the side of the road. The man approached Mehevic about the incident at the apartment, and then began to attack Mehevic.
Mehevic told Caledonia police officers he didn’t want to fight, but decided to defend himself during the altercation.
He’s currently being held in Racine County Jail on a $500 signature bond while awaiting trial.
