Oh Dennis' Restaurant Owner Dies Of A Heart Attack

“He made everybody in the restaurant feel like they were family when he made his rounds,” said Jody Tarwid, DeMark’s daughter and a 46-year-old Racine hairstylist.

Oh Dennis restaurant owner, Dennis DeMark, died suddenly on Saturday at the restaurant.

He died of a heart attack. DeMark was 71-years-old. He was best known as the "rib man" and was well respected for his culinary prowess.

According to a story in the Racine Journal Times:

Dennis was one of the most kind and gentle people I knew. Always asking about us instead of talking about himself. Some of my fondest memories of dating and early marraige with my husband are at Oh Dennis'. In the past few years, I would always share new pictures of the kids with him and his comments were always how we make such beautiful babies. We will miss you Dennis. Rest in peace my friend.

It is with sad heart that I received a phone call telling my wife and I that Dennis has passed. He was such a special man to us and we have a deep love for him. The city of Racine has lost an icon, and I have lost a dear friend. I wait tables at Walt Disney World and have known Dennis and Joann for 17 years. He was instantly likable and infectious in his love of life and his Damn Packers. Knowing I was a Bears fan we had many laughs together. Buying our daughter when she was born a Packer cheerleader outfit, well, that was Dennis. I love you Dennis, may you rest in peace. May I be blessed enough to meet you on the tee box some day, share our love of our families, and laugh the day away as always. Bob, Jena and Grace send you our thanks for all the years together. You will be missed.

We were in Kenosha shopping and on the way back home to Milwaukee, I suggested to my husband that we stop @ Oh Dennis for ribs - we used to stop quite a bit - but with raising kids we hadn't been there in many years. It was always one of our favorites. Nothing fancy, just awesome food and really good people! We waited an hour and a half for a table and it was well worth the wait. As we were finishing up Dennis was making his rounds to visit the tables in the dining room (the usual) when we heard someone yell "call 911". It was almost surreal. What made us stop that night of all nights? We left the resturant after the ambulance departed and said prayers for Dennis, family & staff - all the way home. We are sad to learn of his passing. What beautiful soul we have been blessed to have crossed paths with in our life. Mike & Sandy Wagner

Oh Uncle "D". It is so night right to be talking about how I was going to bring my grandaughter to see you when we had our mini vacation with her, and as we rode past your establishment, the sign read...".Best ribs, even in heaven, we will miss you Dennis, RIP". my heart stopped for a minute. I rushed home to check the computer, and sadness set in. You will be missed by so many. My heart goes out to your entire family. Although you did not get to meet Amelia, I know now that you and my dad, who did not either, will see her everyday. Tell him I love him and make sure to share a lobster tail or two. I will miss you.

I know Dennis is preparing some of the greatest "Ribs" in Heaven today along with some great "Tailgating Parties! I had the privilege opportunity to meet Dennis & Joann at the Disney Institute and teach them some golf. He & Joann were instant friends as everyone they came in contact with felt the same way too. I look forward to helping his game once again hopefully some day. (: He was and always will be a special friend and we'll miss the "Rib Tickler" keeping us in stitches as he does so well. Sincerely, Your Friend Brian Roddy, Orlando, Florida
