Racine Unified Teachers Will Ask, 'Would You Like Fries With That?'

If you ever wanted to see your teacher behind the counter at McDonald's asking for your order, now is your chance. Area McDonald's restaurants are hosting McTeacher Night to help raise money for local schools.

Grab your family and friends on May 2 for a good time at area McDonald's restaurants for McTeacher Night.

To help raise money for local elementary schools, several Racine Unified school teachers will serve Unified community members for one night only. A percentage of the night's sales will be donated to local schools. Different restaurants have been designated for schools.

Here's the full release from the district:

On Wednesday, May 2, five Racine McDonald’s restaurants will host McTeacher Night events. At these locations, Racine Unified School District Teachers will don McDonald’s t-shirts and serve customers to raise money for local schools including S.C. Johnson, Giese, Fratt, North Park and Julian Thomas Elementary Schools.

During the events, a portion of total sales will go to participating schools. McDonald’s will also donate cookies RUSD teachers can sell as a fundraiser and tip jars for donations to the schools will be available.

WHAT:  McTeacher Night Events at McDonald’s

WHEN:  Wednesday, May 2; 4 to 7 p.m. or 4:30 to 7:30 pm

WHERE: 4 to 7 pm

McDonald’s 2100 Lathrop Ave. – donations go to S.C. Johnson Elementary School

McDonald’s 2610 S. Green Bay Road – donations go to Giese Elementary School

McDonald’s 3037 N. Douglas Ave. – donations go to Fratt Elementary School

4:30 to 7:30 pm

McDonald’s 5125 Douglas Ave. – donations go to North Park Elementary School

McDonald’s 1520 State St. – donations go to Julian Thomas Elementary School

McTeacher’s Nights are an opportunity to build relationships within our communities and show McDonald’s support for local schools. While students, parents and other school supporters are having a great time visiting McDonald’s, school staff will work behind the counter. These McDonald’s locations will also offer “double points” for receipts collected during the event that are sent into the Neighbors Program.

Ironically, Kenosha teachers who just got lay-off pink slips (thanks to their union screwing them) may soon be asking that very question.

A friend of mine works for Kenosha Unified. He, and others, have said the union offered concessions. For whatever reason, the district did not show much interest in working with them. Bizarre.
Also, let's face it, 1.2 billion (or whatever) in cuts will cost jobs.
On a bright not we have 250,000 new jobs on the way.

@Ed: I have friends that work at KU too, and as usual, the union offered nothing, nor spoke to the rank and file about anything. They clearly screwed their own members.
Also, let's face it, jobs have only been lost by districts that failed to utilize ACT 10. That would be Kenosha. Jobs have survived everywhere else; those districts are saving money to boot, and in some cases even hiring more teachers.
As for you last point, let's face it. Job creators are sitting on the sidelines while we indulge your destructive recall rants. Not to mention guys like Wirch voting against the mining jobs in a venal partisan act. Congratulations.

My recall rants? Point one out to me. BTW: I voted Wangaard and Walker.
There was also an article in the Kenosha News that corroborated the KEA trying to work with the district (although we certainly do not know all the details).
Many districts are cutting teachers. I just read JS Online a couple of days ago, and Oconomowoc is cutting 12 teachers. Burlington also did.
I think his promise of 250,000 jobs was absurd. Then to blame Obama and then the recall. The rest of the nation is adding jobs. Hopefully we will soon be adding them too.

No one is getting recalled. Who in their right mind thinks that is happening?
Well, maybe Van. I guess I have not seen any polls or anything. However, I would bet good money he wins.
Even if Van loses, so what? That district is moving out to a Republican strong hold later this year. There is no scenario under which the Democrats reverse what has been done. No scenario.
That is why I doubt anyone is sitting on the sidelines. It is just all venting (recall elections). Yes, many people are angry. However, they can not do anything about it, and that is clear to anyone.

Latest polls showed all the republicans ahead in there recall match ups. The only one that was close was the Van Wangard Seat where his lead was within the statistical margin of error. Your also right about the districts future even if the Dems did pick it up it would be a short hold for them.

McDonalds got tricked ! This is nothing but pay for your vote. If Mcdonalds wants to donate ,do it without the teachers union!! next year.

One of the reasons I had to get in on the comments of this story was to see such a mundane topic be the subject of irrational banter. lol... it has not disappointed. I knew with teachers being mentioned that it would attract some crazies.
I want to see Hoffa's take...
In the meantime, 1st prize goes to "protaxpayer".
Although I can not fully understand what he said, it was still great. The fact it was difficult to understand actually made it better. I think it was an excellent garbled rant against unions, paying for votes and trickery.

It's my fault Ed for deliberatly going off-topic. Just couldn't get the mind-picture out of my head, given all the gas we've gotten from the teacher unions. Actually nice of McDonalds for their sense of community outreach.

That is how it is going to be in this state for a while. People are very upset with one another. It sucks. I hope things simmer down, but I fear it will be years.
The unions are being beat up and ALEC is being vilified. Very few politicians enjoy broad respect and neighbors are angry at one another, etc... I have never seen things quite like this.
Hopefully the dust settles. Until then, enjoy the fireworks.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the unions or Walker. This is about helping the kids. PERIOD. Left and Right Kool-Aid drinkers need to just keep quiet.
