Mount Pleasant Police blocked off 16th Street in order for the delivery of a base piece of a wind turbine that will stand between 300 to 415 feet tall. There are two turbines planned for the Waxdale plant of SC Johnson. When construction completes and the turbines are operational, they will generate about 15 percent of the plant's energy.

Pieces of wind turbines arrived at SC Johnson's Waxdale plant in Mount Pleasant Monday. When complete and operational, the pair of turbines will generate 15 percent of the plant's electricity needs.

The company's goal is to eventually get all of Waxdale's energy from sources produced onsite, with a full 60 percent coming from renewable sources.

Mount Pleasant trustees last December approved the turbines with a 6-1 vote.

Residents who initially opposed the project met with company officials last fall to successfully address concerns.
