A teenager drowned in Quarry Lake on Sunday evening, after he and several friends jumped into the water.
According to officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Department, the 16-year-old boy and his friends were jumping off of a pier on the south side of the lake. But the 16-year-old boy didn't resurface, and they called 911 at 7:09 p.m.
The Racine County Water Rescue Response Team and fire personnel from the South Shore, Racine and Caledonia fire departments responded to the scene.
FOX6 news said the boy was in the water for about 25 minutes before being rescued, and that he was not breathing when he was pulled from the water.
The boy's body was recovered at 7:40 p.m., and was taken by ambulance to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital, 3801 Spring St. Flight for Life was called to the hospital, but was not needed because the boy was pronounced dead.
Other news outlets, including The Journal Times, have reported the boy's name. Patch is withholding that until it is confirmed by an official source.

No lifeguards at the Quarry but they can give the lifeguards at the North beach a jet ski? I'm not certain that decision was prudent. As it stands the people who will continue to use the Quarry should install a buddy system. The Boy Scouts could show the park how it's done.

Sadly this isn't a new story. And no, you can't lifeguard everything. No lifeguards is part of the attraction. Sometimes ambition exceeds ability with predictable results.

It's tragic, but I'm not sure there is anyone to blame. I would let my 16 year old go unchaperoned to Quarry Lake Park to swim (assuming he/she could swim). My heart goes out to the family, but anyone trying to blame the park or the city/county should re-identify their motives for doing so.

^^ agreed, as sad as this is, it has nothing to do with Walker.

What a bizzare comment in this tragedy. Why is there even a conneection like that in your mind?
The Quarry is deep - especially off the piers. A person needs to know their capabilities - if you can't swim - don't enter the water - or stay in the shallow end. This tragedy was completely avoidable - completely.
GEEZ- then does it have anything to do with taxpayer funds being used to pay John Dickerts legal bills instead of hiring lifeguards for a few thousand $$$ at the quarry?-
