Village Board Approves Bar Owner's Outdoor Music Plans

Trustees voice concerns, approve conditional use permit for two dates this summer.

The Village Board decided on Tuesday to allow a bar owner to build an addition to an outside pavilion where he will offer live music.

After approving a site plan review of a 30 by 45 foot addition to an open-sided pavilion at Witt’s End Bar, 11601 Highway G, trustees approved a conditional use permit for two live music events this summer.

Trustees, who voiced their concern with the possible disruption the music would cause the surrounding area, agreed to allow the tavern to live bands until midnight on July 21 and Aug. 18.

Bar owner Scott Gustin, who attended the meeting, would have to request a new conditional use permit for future live engagements at the establishment.

"It's not everyday. it's usually Saturday night and it's usually once a month," said Gustin, who added that he has spoken to neighbors about his plan.

The Village Board also approved:

  • Purchase of a AutoPulse device for the Fire Department.
  • Installation of bay floor lighting for Fire Station 12.
  • Renewal of an explosive use permit for Vulcan Materials.
  • Placement of bike route signs on 6 and 7 Mile roads.

Attracting drunken losers to the area... Noise, bad behavior, drunk drivers... Good move board.

You sir have no clue.
You say it attracts losers to the area... So your saying that every church festival that has bands and serves drinks is doing nothing but attracting losers to the area. You have no clue what your talking about.

We'll see about this. I was never contacted and I'm one of the neighbors. The last jerk that owned this place (Mr. Witt himself) generally flaunted the law. After a neighborhood uprising 2 years ago the police gave him a $400 ticket for his patrons setting off fireworks (nowhere near the 4th of July I might add). In case readers don't know, this is a "biker" bar. I think you know what that means....

You had every chance to go to the board meeting and state your concerns. Also remember it is under new ownership. Have you met the new owners ? If so why would you not bring up your concerns with them ? As for the "biker bar" comment please tell me what a biker bar is. You can go to any bar in the area in the warm months and see a motorcycle in the parking lot. Does that mean that every one of them bars are biker bars?
And just for the facts im also a neighbor and I was contacted by the new owners about their plans.

"BIKERS" CONSIST OF LAWYERS TO LABORERS SO THAT IS JUST LIKE SAYING THOSE "RETIREES" IN A DEROGATORY MANNER. ADD TO THE FACT THE "BIKERS" NEED TO STAY MORE AWARE OF THE SURROUNDINGS SO THEY CAN LOOK OUT FOR THE PEOPLE IN VEHICLES WHO ARE MORE DRUNKEN THAN YOU ARE INSINUATING A BIKER IS.

No, what does that mean? That is a pretty big stereotype you are throwing around there. Plus, let's give these new owners a chance to prove, or disprove, themselves before throwing them under the bus. What can they do to that area that The Depot hasn't already done?

Just because it's frequented by bikers doesn't mean anything. Those "bikers" are normal people just like you and me...they just enjoy the freedom of the open road and enjoy relaxing at a local establishment. The new owner is doing what is best to make his business a success in a terrible economy. Caledonia Retiree....would you rather see the bar close...only adding to more unemployed people draining an already over drained system???
