Downtown Racine action. It's First Friday time again. Head to Downtown Racine from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 for an evening of things to see and do. Zicomatic, featuring hits of the '70s through '90s, at Monument Square from 6 to 9 p.m. As you stroll around, you'll find music from Igneous, Mark Paffrath, Paul Kaye and Jeff Ward. What am I bid? Those 60 beautifully decorated trunks from this year's Summer Trunk Show public art project will be auctioned off Saturday at Monument Square. It's Super in Union Grove. Super Saturday is an entire day of family fun at Union Grove Village Square. It all starts at 9 a.m. with entertainment, a petting zoo, pony rides and more. A community talent show, "Union Grove's Got Talent" starts at 11 a.m. A 5k run/walk is 3-5 p.m. through the village. The annual Kiwanis Street Dance starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs through midnight. Love those melons. Enjoy family fun and fresh watermelon at Swan's Pumpkin Farm, 5930 Highway H, Franksville. The event includes a watermelon seed spitting contest and other games. Pig roast dinners are available for purchase. Stop by between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. To learn more, call 262-835-4885.
Don't forget the tomatoes. If you love tomatoes, Tomatomania is for you. Visit Mileager's, 4838 Douglas Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to taste more than 115 different tomato varieties. Then, vote for your favorite and try free samples of salsas and gourmet sausage. Other fresh foods, including guacamole, veggie nachos and wood-fired pizza, will be available for purchase. Master gardeners will be on handle to answer gardening questions. You can also win door prizes.
One more week. The Biggest Loser RunWalk Racine is coming Sunday, Sept. 16. The 5k, 10k and 15k events start and finish at Festival Park, 5 Fifth St. A health and wellness meet-and-greet with Season 5 contestants Dan and Jackie Evans is Saturday, Sept. 15 at Festival Park. Click HERE to register.
