Drivers will be able to use 4-Mile Road during a county repaving project that gets underway Monday.

Patching, milling and repaving the roadway between Douglas Avenue and Charles Street has long been a county improvement project and is being moved up a year.

"Because of favorable pricing on 2013 road projects, this road work will be done a year earlier than projected," a press release from the Racine County Department of Public Works reads. "Four Mile Road will remain open during the construction."

The street will not be widened, but paved shoulders will be installed along the entire length of 4-Mile between Douglas Avenue and Charles Street.

Caledonia officials closed this stretch of 4-Mile Road last June for two weeks for planned sewer work that is part of the Kremer subdivision project.

The Caledonia Utility District replaced and repaired sections of sewer and water pipes at the request of the county in anticipation of the county's plan to complete their paving project this fall, district manager Bob Lui said then. Manhole covers were also replaced.

County officials estimate work will wrap on or about Oct. 15. Motorists are advised to schedule extra travel time into their schedule during construction.

More work on 4 Mile Road?!? Thanks for keeping the road open during construction. We are still getting used to the other side finally being open!

Really, maybe you could have started a month ago, when there was no traffic from the underpass. I'll bet it's not finished by Oct.15,2013.
