Deadline Approaching for Firefighter Applications

Caledonia is accepting applications for two firefighter/paramedic positions.

There are just two weeks left before the deadline to apply to the Caledonia Fire Department.

Applications are being accepted until 4 p.m. Oct. 25 for two firefighter/paramedic positions funded by a federal SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant totaling $325,540. The grant will pay the salary and benefits of two, full time firefighters for two years.

CFD Chief Richard Roeder told village trustees in August that hiring two new full time firefights will save taxpayers about $100,000 in overtime costs over the two years. Board members can choose to not fund the positions after two years.

The Caledonia Fire Department posted on its Facebook page some of the requirements for the positions:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School or Equivalency Diploma
  • WI State or National Registry - Paramedic Certification
  • State of Wisconsin Certified Firefighter II
  • Candidate Physical Ability Test Certification (CPAT)
Applications are available through the village's website, www.caledoniawi.com, or at the Caledonia Fire Department Administration Office, 6900 Nicholson Rd. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested candidates must have copies of completed certifications and licenses attached to their applications for consideration.

Starting salary is $48,175. The village requires firefighters live within thirty miles of CFD station 10 no later than after three months of successful completion of a 12-month probationary period.
