Last Two 'Greening Up Your Yard' Workshops in June

Learn how to use rainwater for great gardening and apply for a grant to help pay for your own rain garden.

With 15 of 25 available grants already handed out for rain gardens, Caledonia Patchers have only two more opportunities to apply.

The last workshops of "Greening Up Your Garden" from the Root-Pike WIN (Watershed Initiative Network) are scheduled for June 5 and June 25. Anyone interested in applying for a rain garden grant must attend one of the workshops.

Participants learn how to minimize stormwater runoff, one of the primary causes of pollution in area waterways; healthy lawn care; proper composting practices; and, of course, how to plant and care for a rain garden. One rain barrel will be given away at each workshop by a random drawing.

According to a press release from the Root-Pike WIN, since 2008, more than 700,000 gallons of rain water and snow-ice melt has been kept out of area waterways because of the 78 rain gardens funded through the initiative.
