Local Carpenters Union Members Protest Parkview Building Project

The same picketers from Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Local 161 are picketing now at Parkview Gardens.

A handful of picketers representing the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Local 161 started picketing in front of the entrance of Parkview Gardens Monday morning.

A member of the group, who did not want their name used, said they are the same group that was picketing in front of the Siena Center during the winter. The same contracting company, Bob Anderson Builders, is working on both construction projects. They are picketing to support prevailing wages, he said.

The union represents 47,000 people in the construction and maintenance industry from northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin and parts of Iowa. But local 161 represents workers from the Racine and Kenosha area.

The plan to expand Parkview includes building 73 apartments, which would house a dementia and Alzheimer care wing near the current buildings located just north of Kmart along Highway 32 near 4 Mile Road. We've got a phone call into Parkview to find out more.
