POLL: With the Packers Gone, Does the Big Game Matter?

For those Wisconsinites still suffering from the delusion that the Packers have a chance to make the Super Bowl, it's time to face the facts.

It was a horrible way to go out, but indeed the Packers 2011-12 season ended with a painful 20-37 loss to the New York Giants.

To add insult to injury, the Giants are now continuing on to Super Bowl 46, facing the New England Patriots in the Feb. 6 game.

Back in November, asking readers about their confidence level in the Green and Gold. With 103 votes, 90 percent of Patch readers said that the Packers were heading to the Super Bowl; 67 percent thought they might lose a game or two — but still make it — while 23 percent thought the team would get there undefeated.

A mere 1 person voted that the team would screw up somewhere in the playoffs. (Editor's note: as of 1 p.m. Monday; this is not a scientific poll.)

As we all know, that undefeated record ended in mid-December when the Packers lost 14-19 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

While the wounds may be too fresh for many to admit it, it was a good season — with many record-setting achievements made by the team. An article posted on the Packers' official website describes those successes in detail, including "franchise records for most wins in a regular season" as well as yardage and turnover records and records set by beloved Quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Plus, the article says, the team's "19-game winning streak was the second-longest in NFL history, behind only New England’s 21-game streak in 2003-04."

We may not be celebrating a Green and Gold victory on Feb. 6, but some would say there are many reasons to be celebrating the Green and Gold already.
