Rural Landowners and Small Farmers Invited To Informational Workshop

If you've got land and want to look at different ways you can use it, consider attending the southeast Wisconsin Rural Landowner Conference.

The 6th Annual Southeast Wisconsin Rural Landowner Conference scheduled for Saturday November 3 will offer opportunities for rural landowners and small farmers and well as individuals who are considering a farm enterprise.

Participants will be able to choose from a variety of educational topics from three tracts:  small farm, conservation and entrepreneurship.  The small farm tract will focus primarily on growing fruit crops.  Growing strawberries, raspberries, apples and pears will be discussed in addition to a session on beginning beekeeping.  The conservation tract will focus on starting a prairie, invasive species control and will include a panel of local, state and federal government agencies representatives and their programs.  The entrepreneurship tract will offer education on marketing options for small farms including starting a CSA (community supported agriculture) and selling at farmers’ markets.  A session on selling to customers from your farm will also be offered as well as growing mushrooms and a session on how to use uncommon vegetables.

In addition to the educational sessions, a free electronic waste recycling event will be held in conjunction with the conference from 8:00 am – 11:00 am. Electronic waste includes computers, cell phones, tv’s, electronic toys and anything with a cord.  Electronic waste will be collected in the parking lot.

The program will be held on Saturday November 3, 2012 at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol and will run from 8:00 am -3:00 pm.  Costs for the program are $20/person and $15 for youth between the ages of 14 and 18.  Costs increase by $5 after the October 26th  early bird deadline.  Lunch is included with the registration fee.
