Citizens on the East Coast are facing winter and the upcoming holidays after being devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The South Shore Fire Department is going to take a trailor to New York and New Jersey on Thanksgiving Day to help provide a list of needed basics.

Some of the most needed items include:

  • Winter clothing (new or gently used)
  • Boots & shoes
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Water
  • Paper products
  • Pry bars
  • Batteries
  • Toiletries
  • Laundry Soap
  • Hammers
  • Flashlights
  • Visa gift cards

SSFD is collecting items through Nov. 21 at Sturtevant Village Hall, 2801 89th Street.
