Choral Arts Society of SE Wisconsin presents Glenn Burleigh's Alpha Mass

The Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin will start the celebration of its Silver Anniversary season with Alpha Mass by Glenn Burleigh, at Greater Mt. Eagle Baptist Church, 929 State Street, Racine, WI on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 7 PM. CAS will be joined by the Greater Mt. Eagle Choir in the church’s beautiful new sanctuary.

Alpha Mass reflects composer Glenn Burleigh’s passion for bringing diverse people together. His music is a blend of classical, gospel, jazz and contemporary styles that weaves a virtual tapestry of praise. The form and the text are based on the traditional Latin Mass, yet reflect upon the composer’s personal faith and experience. This performance will feature a combo of accomplished jazz and gospel instrumentalists, and vocal soloists. Join the CAS, Greater Mt. Eagle Choir and friends as they recreate one of the most memorable programs of CAS’s 25 year history.

Composer Burleigh and CAS enjoyed a rather special relationship. Their association began in 1990, when Mr. Burleigh came to Wisconsin for the first performance of Alpha Mass with full orchestration. He became friends with CAS Artistic Director James Schatzman, and as a result, made many Southeastern Wisconsin connections. By the time of his untimely, sudden death at the age of 58 in 2007, Mr. Burleigh had become widely recognized and respected as a composer of sacred music. (www.glenmusik.com )
