Get Out: Plenty of Fun on Hand this Weekend

Music, a carnival, a spaghetti dinner, poetry night and a luau will surely put more spring in your step.

Where and when? , 5530 Middle Rd, 11 am to 2 pm March 26

Why go? Carnival for a Cure offers children a variety of carnival type games to play to win tickets and get prizes. There will be food for sale, raffles drawn every 15 minutes with a free raffle for all kids as well as music.  100% of the proceeds raised are donated to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Cost:  $10 wristbands to play games unlimited or  $0.50 a ticket.

Where and when? Bartlett Youth Center 1120 N Stuart Rd. 4 to 7 p.m. March 26

Why go? The menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, Italian bread, salad and beverage.  Homemade desserts, soda and bottled water will be sold and carry-outs will be available.

Cost? Tickets are available at the door or from a Wednesday Optimist member.  Tickets cost $7 for adults, and $4 for children ages 12 and under.  Proceeds provide scholarships and support Racine area youth organizations.  For more information, call (262) 764-5669 or (262)886-0758.

Why Go? Hula your way to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes. There will be a best Hawaiian dressed contest, hula-hoop contest and a limbo contest.  Test your music knowledge with DJ Jay's music trivia all night long as well as raffles all night long. 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Cost? Ticket price includes beer, soda, and nacho bar. Advance tickets are $12 or $15 at the door.

Why Go? For March, the free BONK! monthly performance series presents poets Daniel Khalastchi and Zach Savich as well as musicians Folkswagon Bug.

Khalastchi is a first-generation Iraqi-Jewish-American who is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Marquette University; his first collection of poetry, Manoleria (2011), won the Tupelo Press/Crazyhorse First Book Prize. Savich is the author of three books of poetry who has won numerous awards; his poems, essays, and reviews appear widely.

Folkswagon Bug comprises three members of Racine's 5-piece Americana band Folkswagon, which features music by singer/songwriter Rachelle Van Offeren; they regularly play at local venues and recently recorded their first album, Fresh Fruit.

Where and when? Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave. 7 p.m. March 26

Why go? The Stellanovas "cafe jazz" and Jeno Somlai's "latin jazz" will come together for a two-set show that's the third installment of the annual Jean's Jazz Series.

The Stellanovas, led by husband-and-wife team Chris Wagoner and Mary Gaines, play an eclectic mix of jazz standards and pop tunes. They've worked with U2, Smashing Pumpkins, and Taj Mahal.

Jeno Somlai will perform with his Latin jazz sextet. Somlai, a lifelong drummer, switched to piano when the things he wanted to do musically didn't match his instrument. He's joined by Eric Jacobson, Sam Fettig, Ethan Bender, Luis Diaz and Jeremy Kutzniar.
