Back to School: Horlick Football is Tops in Racine County

Rebels, Panthers and Eagles, oh, my! The 2013 high school football season kicks off Aug. 23.

Despite improvements at various positions, Racine Park and Racine Case are still expected to lag behind Racine Horlick during the 2013 high school football season.

Steve Fifer from 1250AM WSSP and Journal Times reporter Gery Woelfel broke down the Southeast Conference during a recent edition of Sports Junkies.

In short, they both say Racine Horlick is the best football team in Racine County, but the Rebels will still fall short of both Oak Creek and Franklin.

"Oak Creek and Franklin will be at the top again," Fifter said. "Rickey Neal at quarterback is the best player in the conference."

How Park does this year was classified as the "$64,000 question" because the team is expected to bring a quarterback up from JV, which is always a risky move. Still, the offensive line has improved and Woelfel thinks the team has "all the pieces to come together ... they could be competitive."

Over at Case, Fifer and Woelfel noted the "heartbreaking losses" the Eagles endured last year. This year, they also face the loss of their starting quarterback, but with a better looking defense - especially Daeon Farris at linebacker - the program is "slowly but surely headed in the right direction."

The 2013 football season kicks off at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 for all three schools:

  • Park plays Brookfield Central at Horlick Field
  • Case plays Burlington at Hammes Field at Case
  • Horlick plays Mukwanago at Mukwanago
