Here's a short video about what it is and how you can help and when the informational sessions will be held.

Schools of Hope provides young children with tutors on a regular basis to increase reading achievement in the early grades. Since October 2012, Schools of Hope volunteers have provided over 1,500 hours of tutoring. During the spring 2013 semester, 168 volunteer tutors read with 257 students from 38 classrooms at four schools.

At least 300 tutors are needed to work with students at Fratt, Giese, Janes, North Park, Olympia Brown, Roosevelt, S.C. Johnson, and Wadewitz elementary schools in the fall of 2013.

Tutors spend an hour a week with one or two children at designated Racine Unified elementary schools, helping students improve their reading skills. No prior tutoring or teaching experience is required, just a positive attitude and the desire to help students succeed.

For a first-hand account of how this program benefits both the students and the tutors, read about Denise Lockwood's experience here.
