DISCUSSION: Should We Make An Honest Woman Out Of Lady Luck?

While video gambling machines are illegal in Wisconsin, but a number of taverns and restaurants have had them for years. With the economy in the tank and our tax bills on the rise, should we legalize gambling in Wisconsin?

We've all seen illegal video gambling machines in bars, restaurants and gas stations for years.

And while the Department of Revenue and the Caledonia Police Department has s (or at least those businesses with Class A liquor licenses) to pull the plug and get rid of the machines this month, the taverns and restauarants with five or fewer will get to keep theirs.

But this week, , owner of Primegamez LLC asked: “Are they allowing gambling in the state of Wisconsin, why yes they are in the 12,000 bars and restaurants, so why can’t gas stations have them?”

Takerian argues that keeping those machines in those gas stations means they get to keep the doors open, just like the bars and restaurants.

But an even broader question begs to be asked, given the state of the economy and the way the law is written (only the Department of Revenue can order Class B license holders to yank the machines), should we just make an honest woman out of Lady Luck and legalize those video gambling machines?
