Indoor Baseball Field Proposed in Caledonia is Benched

Owner had trouble finding financing for project.

Despite having numerous fans on the Village Board, plans to build a new indoor baseball field have been put on hold.

Jerry Griswold, a member of the Village Board, said he got a call from the architect that had presented plans for a 50,000 square foot indoor baseball field in the Caledonia Industrial Park in Franksville. The project is on hold because RJ Fergus, the owner of Hitters Baseball, is having problems with finding funding for the project.

Fergus said he currently leases his current location at 4726 6 Mile Rd.; he had hoped to finish the financing for the project and break ground on the five-acre parcel in August. The baseball club, which has grown from 150 to 600 players, competes in major baseball showcase tournaments and offers summer camps.

"The banks just aren't lending," he said. "Which is too bad, I wanted to see it move forward."

Even with the lack of financing, the Village Board did vote to approve the concept. Griswold said that if the project does get financing, they'll be able to move forward.
