Milwaukee Foodie News: New Pizzeria to Feature Kids' Area with Rocket Ship

A new Wauwatosa restaurant that's becoming a bit too popular and the opening of a family pizza restaurant in the North Shore top this week's edition of "Foodie News."

If you love food and exploring new places to eat, or want to find out what eateries are coming and going, we have latest restaurant and other "foodie" news from throughout the Milwaukee area.  Here's a look at what's new on the local food, restaurant and bar scene.

Is New Tosa Restaurant Becoming Too Popular?

Anyone who has paid attention to the Milwaukee foodie scene knows that the new BelAir Cantina on North Avenue in Wauwatosa has been getting a lot of buzz. In fact, the restaurant, which specializes on tacos and tequilas, just opened a new patio dining area. However, finding parking isn't easy, and some neighbors living around the restaurant at 68th and North are complaining about the parking and traffic headaches in the area, according to WISN 12 News. Of course, these kind of concerns aren't new in Wauwatosa. When Mo's Irish Pub opened its doors at Highway 100 and Blue Mound Road in 2009, the lack of parking created a huge headache for neighbors. Those problems were alleviated when Mo's built a new parking lot.

October Opening For Roman Candle Pizzeria

What sounds like a great restaurant for families with kids — The Roman Candle Pizzeria — is making progress toward opening its doors in October in Whitefish Bay.  The location on Silver Spring Drive will be the first Milwaukee pizzeria for Roman Candle, which has three locations in and around Madison. The pizzeria will have an open concept interior with table seating, bar seating and a dedicated children's play area featuring a rocket ship. There also will be patio seating and — oh, yes — hand-dipped ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe in Madison. Read more on Whitefish Bay Patch.

Pizza Man Rising From the Ashes

In other pizza news, the Pizza Man restaurant on the East Side is just weeks away from opening its doors after it was destroyed in a fire in January 2010. The Business Journal has a photo gallery of the new restaurant, located at North Downer Avenue and East Belleview Place, site of the former Lixx frozen custard.

A Different Way to Get Your Morning Joe

Fans of Valentine Coffee's beans can now get it professionally brewed as fresh as possible from the source  as Valentine has just opened a cafe-like coffee tasting room at 5918 W. Vliet St. in Wauwatosa. There, you will be able not only to get a great cup of coffee brewed in the purest fashion – hot water poured over freshly ground beans – you can also taste-test any of Valentine's many roasts to find your favorite to take home. But don't mistake this new tasting room for your local Starbucks. "We don't have any syrups, no flavored drinks," said  co-owner Joe Gilsdorf. "It's the coffees and their different personalities that is the variety."
