Sporting Goods Store to Close

Oak Creek Sporting Goods, inside the Hitters Baseball Academy, specializes in baseball and softball products.

Oak Creek Sporting Goods, located inside the Hitters Baseball Academy at 4726 6 Mile Road, will close by the end of March.

The store has specialized in baseball and softball products and offers services such as glove re-stringing and shoe customization.

Owner Jeff Fassbinder said he started the business as a hobby after his son graduated from Oak Creek High School in 2009. But the store quickly took off, thanks to organizations such as the Oak Creek Little League and Oak Creek High School Baseball.

"I was a 'baseball Dad' and wanted to share what I learned and also create an opportunity for me to do sponsorships and scholarships for kids/teams/parents that really needed the support," Fassbinder wrote in an email. "I have usually done this anonymously (it’s never been about me). I just like helping others if I have the resources."

Fassbinder never thought the store would grow as much as it did—it was only intended to be a part-time project—and eventually it "outgrew" him.
