Caledonia's Population Increases 4.6 percent

While the number of Hispanic or Latino people represents a small percentage of the overall population of the Village, their presence grew by 77 percent.

The U.S. Census Bureau released population, race and ethnicity numbers, which show Caledonia, Wisconsin has grown since the 2000 census.

The population of Caledonia increased by 1,091 people to 24,705 in 2010, or 4.6 percent. That amount of growth exceeded the percentage of population increase in Racine County, which grew by 6,557 people to 195,408 or 3.5 percent.

The Village has also become more racially and ethnically diverse over the past 10 years, but the community remains predominantly white. With that said, the Village’s Hispanic or Latino population increased by 567 to 1,303, or 77 percent. Still, the group represents about 5 percent of the Village population.

In Racine County, the Hispanic or Latino population increased by 7,556 to 22,546, a 50 percent increase. In Mt. Pleasant, the population exploded by 1,032 to 2,181 people, or 90 percent, and in Oak Creek, the population increased by 1,315 people to 2,582, or 104 percent.

The Census Bureau asks residents if they are one race or more than once race. In Caledonia, 98 percent of the population identified themselves as one race. And of those who indicated that they are one race:

  • 92 percent are white
  • 3 percent are black
  • 2 percent are Asian
  • 1 percent is American Indian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, or some other race.

The comparison between the number of white, black, and Asian populations from the 2000 Census to the 2010 Census show:

  • The white population increased by 416 people to 22,656, or 1.8 percent.
  • The black population increased by 218 to 688, or 46 percent.
  • The Asian population increased by 155 to 456, or 51 percent
