More Walmarts in the Area?
While Walmart openly looks to expand in Caledonia, it may also have its sights set on the City of Racine.
Caledonia may not be the only local community considering a new Walmart in the coming months. Rumors are swirling among local officials that the mega-chain is considering one, and as many as three, new stores in the City of Racine.
We first heard the claim passed around at the village's recent meeting on expanding I-794 in Racine County. Since then more people have suggested Walmart is looking in the city, including in Downtown Racine. (For what it's worth, a Realtor recently told me a building in the city's Downtown sold for an unimaginably low price. Details will come out when the deal closes next week, the Realtor said.)
Opposition to the proposed Walmart on 4 Mile Road is also raising questions about the 4 Mile Road location. While several local residents have told me they (quietly) support having a Walmart on their side of town, the chain itself suggested in March it may need a new location.
