Donations, Adoptions Up With Humane Society Change

A doubling of adoptions and financial donations is a strong sign that the commiunity supports the shift in control of the Racine area's animal shelter. The Wisconsin Humane Society took over the assets of Countryside Humane Society. 

The Journal Times reported the adoptions and donations doubled in the first two months of the shelter's operation under WHS over the same period last year. 

At WHS’s Racine campus, 2706 Chicory Road, 171 animals were adopted in January and February, the organization said. That was a 94.3 percent increase compared with the 88 animals adopted in the first two months of 2012, according to records kept by the former Countryside Humane Society.

The campus acts as an animal shelter and picks up stray and lost animals; other animal complaints are handled by municipalities, The Journal Times reported. 

WHS officials previously told Patch that its commitment to animals will be in place here—including not imposing time or space limits for adoptable animals—and that animals who are not adopted quickly will not be euthanized.
