Police: Caledonia Teen Crashes Into Building, Cited for OWI

An 18-year-old Caledonia man and his 17-year-old female passenger walked away without a scratch after the car they were in crashed through the back wall of Zone 2 Extreme early Sunday morning.

Caledonia police say Todd Phillips was driving south on Highway 32 at 1:27 a.m. Sunday when he tried to turn left into the parking lot of George Webb, 4555 Douglas Avenue.

Phillips reportedly lost control of the car in the turn, crossed four lanes of traffic, missed the driveway, jumped the curb and ran over the mailbox before driving directly into the back of the Zone2Extreme shop, 4543 Douglas Avenue.

Police reports indicate the building sustained “significant structural damage” because Phillips’ car ended up partially inside the back of the shop.

Neither Phillips nor his passenger was injured in the accident.

Phillips was transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s for a legal blood draw, the results of which were not available at the time this story posted.
