Grant Allows River Bend to Purchase GPS Units

River Bend's executive director says grant money will help Racine County children use technology to connect with nature.

A state grant will fund the purchase of Global Positioning Systems to be used at River Bend Nature Center.

River Bend was recently awarded the $400 Barbara Beetow State Grant from the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. The GPS units will help engage children visiting River Been through observations, problem solving, trekking and geocaching, according to a River Bend news release.

"We are extremely grateful for the support and generosity of Alpha Delta Kappa," River Been Executive Director Jeanne Dernehl said. "The grant will help the children of Racine County use technology to connect to nature and engage them in a way that requires creativity and problem solving, while having a good time."
