Soda Can Used in I-94 Road Rage Incident

A 21-year-old Caledonia man was cited for obstruction Saturday after police say he lied about his involvement in a road rage incident.

Caledonia police say they responded to a call at 4:15 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 7700 block of Highway V to take a report of a road rage incident that happened on I-94. The caller – later identified as Samuel Wilson - advised dispatch that the other driver had exited the expressway and followed him to his home.

As officers were on their way, dispatch advised them a third caller – unrelated to the incident – had phoned 911 to say the driver of a car had thrown what looked like a soda can at the mini van in front of him.

When officers arrived at the residence, Wilson maintained that he hadn’t thrown anything at the other vehicle. Even when police told him that another caller had reported the incident, Wilson refused to veer from his story.

Eventually, though, Wilson admitted that he threw the soda can and knew that it caused a dent and scratches to the rear bumper and quarter panel of the mini van.

Wilson was eventually issued a citation for obstruction for lying to police. Because the incident technically took place on I-94, CAPD turned the matter over to the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the mini van declined to press charges. There was nothing in the police report to indicate what set Wilson off so that he threw the soda can.
