The Week Behind, The Week Ahead for Caledonia

The arrest of a child sex assault suspect and a proposal from Walmart dominated the news in Caledonia last week.

James Eckhoff, wanted in Hudson for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old girl on multiple occasions, was taken into custody in Racine County after a woman saw his face in a Patch story and notified authorities that he might be at the Riverside Inn on Northwestern Avenue.

Eckhoff was expected to be transported to St. Croix County to face five felony counts of sexual assault of a child.

Walmart, meanwhile, requested a land-use plan change to clear the way for it to build a store at 4 Mile and N. Green Bay roads.

The village Plan Commission could take up the issue as early as Jan. 30.

So what lies ahead this week?

The Village Board meets Monday and is expected to discuss extending a permit issued in 2011 for the construction of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints facility.

The board will also discuss the village's comprehensive outdoor recreation plan, purchasing a new Mack Truck and a wholesale water agreement, among other items. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the East Side Community Center, 6156 Douglas Avenue.
