Two Sex Offenders Violate Local Ordinance
Caledonia police say two convicted sex offenders recently moved into the village, violating a local ordinance because they were not originally residents of Caledonia.
Jonathan Vazquez, 29, was convicted in 2001 of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault having sex with a 13-year-old girl. After he was released from jail, he set up residence in the City of Racine, but because he was too close to a daycare, he was told he had to move.
Erling A Hagen, 61, was convicted of two counts of 1st degree sexual assault of a child after being accused of fondling two, seven-year-old girls on separate occasions when he lived in Mount Pleasant. Hagen reportedly purchased a home in Caledonia, but because he was not a resident here at the time of his offenses, he is prohibited from living in the village.
Caledonia police say Hagen further violated village ordinance by living within 1,800 feet of a daycare and 800 feet from the Root River Parkway.
Neither man contacted village authorities before moving into their residences. Vazquez is looking for a new home, police said. Hagen has been informed he cannot live in Caledonia, but the written statement from CPD does not indicate whether or not Hagen is actively seeking a new residence.
