Waukesha Water Diversion Public Meeting

The City of Waukesha has scheduled public informational meetings on its application to tap into Lake Michigan water via the City of Oak Creek and return the wastewater (also know as effluent or treated sewerage) through the Root River where it will flow to Lake Michigan and discharge in the harbor in the City of Racine. The plan is posted on their website and you can access it at this link:http://www.ci.waukesha.wi.us/982
Get Informed. Ask Questions.
This your opportunity to ask Waukesha officials and their consultants about their plan and its impact on the Root River and Lake Michigan. Some good questions to ask are:

  • Will the diversion add more pollution to the Root River, which is already impaired, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources?
  •  Will the diversion have an impact on the millions of dollars already invested in planning and restoration of the Root River?

  •  What impact with the diversion have on the fishery and overall biological health of the river?

  • What will happen when it floods during all too frequent heavy rains?
