Peace Learning Circles, a local nonprofit educational organization, has partnered with the Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin to organize Circles of Peace, an eleven-day focus on non-violence from September 11-21. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of how we can better treat each other every day. The event will focus on respect, values, inclusion, unity and creating a safe place where everyone can live together in peace. One of the highlights of Circles of Peace will be the presence of Usha Gandhi Gokani, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, who will be the keynote speaker at the closing ceremony on September 21.
The Circles of Peace Opening Ceremony will be held on September 11 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The focus will be a bit different then many of the September 11 events. We will be focusing on what have we learned since 911 and how we can bring a culture of peace to our communities. Three reknowned keynote speakers will be addressing one of the following topics: Being at peace within ourselves, being at peace within our homes, and being at peace within our communities.
The closing ceremony will take place on September 21. Guest keynote speaker will be Usha Gandhi Gokani, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi.
