Racine AAUW - STEM - Why So Few Women?

FORMER UWM STEM COORDINATOR TO SPEAK AT RACINE AAUW, REGISTRATION DEADLINE FEB. 1:

 On Tuesday, February 7, Dr. Anita Manogaran, former University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee STEM Coordinator, will share with Racine AAUW members and guests what she has learned about why girls and women are not going into science, technology, engineering and math.

 The meeting will be at the Racine Marriott, 7111 Washington Ave. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and program at 7:30 p.m.  Reservations can be made by sending a $22.00 check, made out to Racine AAUW, to Karen Cardinal, 5748 Cambridge Ln. #3, Racine, WI 53406.  The deadline for reservations is February 1.

 The program is open to the public and can be attended free of charge, but reservations are requested for seating purposes.  Call 886-2413.

 Dr. Manogaran earned her undergraduate degree in biological sciences at UWM and a PhD in Developmental Genetics and Biochemistry from Marquette University.  She was a postdoctoral fellow and Research Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago before returning to Wisconsin to teach at Marquette and to work on a multimillion dollar initiative focused on retaining women scientists in faculty positions.

 A graduate of Racine Park High School, Dr. Manogaran was inducted into Park’s Hall of Fame in 2010, one of the youngest graduates to be so honored.
