OBITUARY: LaVerne Emma Chernouski

LaVerne Emma Chernouski loved to bake, had a great sense of humor and working on jigsaw puzzles.

LaVerne Emma Chernouski, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 7.

LaVerne was born in Racine on Dec. 24, 1920 to Edward and Emma (nee, Luedtke) Piepmeyer. On Aug. 15, 1942 she married Philip John Chernouski. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1997. LaVerne graduated from Wm. Horlick High School. She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a current member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. LaVerne was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cubs and Badgers. She enjoyed keeping herself busy with jigsaw puzzles, watching game shows, bird watching and going to casinos. LaVerne had a great sense of humor. She loved to bake and was an excellent cook, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

LaVerne is survived by her loving children, Tom (Karen) Chernouski and Sally (David) Pedersen; daughters-in-law, Lonna Chernouski and Barb Chernouski; grandchildren, Dawn, Pam, Julie, Carl, Cheryl, Jodi, Lisa, Libby, Ethan, Scott and Lori; and her sisters, Arlene (Bob) Akerlund and Judy (Roger) Berger. LaVerne is also survived by great-grandchildren, a niece, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Dennis Duffy; her sons, John Chernouski and Mike Chernouski; and brothers, Eugene Piepmeyer and Edward Piepmeyer, Jr.

Funeral services for LaVerne will be held on at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the , 3915 Douglas Ave.Β  Private family interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
