2-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured After Being Bitten By Relative's Dog

Youth taken to the hospital after a 12-year-old lab bit him in the face.

A 2-year-old boy suffered serious injuries to his face and was taken to Children’s Hospital after a relative’s dog bit the child, according to officials with the Caledonia Police Department.

Police and rescue personnel responded to the call at 4 p.m. Sunday in the 13000 Block of 4 Mile Road.

"The boy's injuries were pretty severe," said Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department. "And the child had to have surgery."

The owner of the 12-year-old lab has signed the paperwork to euthanize the dog, Larsen said.

The dog also bit the same child on the shoulder in July 2012, police said.

"sever" should be "severe", right?

My prayers for the child & family, also to the owner/owners of the dog. I realize how sad it is a child was injured, but the dog owner (if anything like me) is loosing a family member also. Not because the dog is old or sickly but because it for some reason, injuried a child. Has the dog ever bitten anyone else??? Is it possible the child was teasing the dog??? I can't help but ask, don't think I'm not thinking of the child because I am--it's just that a lot of people consider their pets as family. Either way-my prayers to all!!!!
