$9 iPhone Cable = Boatloads Of Trouble For This Guy

Man allegedly took a $9 iPhone cable and his girlfriend's car, then eluded police. But that $9 cable is going to cost him big time if he's found guilty of all of the charges he's facing.

A man suspected of shoplifting was apprehended by Caledonia Police after a Friday evening car chase.

Dakeece Shyheed Miller-Ricks, 20, of Racine, allegedly took a $9 USB cable for his iPhone, then ran from Kmart security. He left his girlfriend behind, taking her car and fleeing from police. He was arrested for a felony count of eluding a police officer, retail theft, trespassing and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license. He also received numerous municipal citations.

Miller-Ricks, who was driving a green 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, was suspected of taking a USB cable from Kmart in the 5200 block of Douglas Ave. Officers located at Charles Street and Four Mile Road gave pursuit after the car was spotted on Charles Street at Three Mile Road.

The driver used the shoulder of the road to pass several other vehicles, and didn't stop for a stop sign. An officer saw the car turn east onto Saxony Drive and turn south onto Green Street without stopping. Miller-Ricks almost struck a mini van that was backing out of a driveway. He then failed to stop at another stop sign on Green Street and Carlton Drive, then turned east onto Carlton and south onto St. Clair Street.

Miller-Ricks stopped the car on St. Clair Street, got out and ran through several yards before being caught about five yards away from a squad car. While in custody, Miller-Ricks admitted to taking the cable from Kmart and said he left the items at the store, but then Police found the cable in his pocket. He apologized and asked for the officer to take him back to the store to apologize to them.
