Accused Counterfeiter Given Signature Bond

Trying to pass funny money lands a Chicago man on house arrest.

A Chicago man is facing multiple felony counts of forgery after Caledonia and Racine police say he tried to pass phony bills at area businesses.

Donte Livingston, 31, was charged Friday in Racine County Circuit Court Friday with five felony counts of uttering a forgery. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison and/or up to $50,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, Livingston is accused of trying to pass counterfeit $20 and $100 bills at a handful of local businesses in both Caledonia and the City of Racine last January.

When police located a witness and showed that person photos taken from surveillance video, they identified Livingston by name, the complaint reads.

Online court records indicate charges and a warrant for $20,000 were filed against Livingston in May, but the warrant was vacated Friday when the defendant made his initial appearance. Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch assigned Livingston a $5,000 signature bond with the condition that he be on house arrest with GPS monitoring.

Livingston will next be in court for his preliminary hearing Aug. 28.
