Police officers caught up with the van, which was going northbound on State Highway 38 from Five Mile Road, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department. The driver of the minivan stopped on STH 38 and Linwood Road, but there is no stop sign there.

Officers initiated a traffic stop. When the van approached a red light on Highway 38 and Six Mile Road, the driver drove through a red light and turned right without signaling at 20 mph, which made an eastbound vehicle cross the centerline to avoid a collision. Heading east on Six Mile Road, the driver of the minivan traveled at 15 to 25 mph in a 55 mph zone, and drove along the fog line. After turning south on Linwood Road, the driver pulled over to the shoulder.

At gunpoint, the driver, a 16-year-old boy, was ordered out of the van. His 14-year-old brother was passed out in the back of the van. A Breathalyzer test showed that the 16-year-old boy had a blood-alcohol level of .11. He also didn’t have a driver’s license.

When police searched the van, they also found four packets of marijuana in the floor of the van, which appeared to be packaged for sales.
