The Village Board gave five liquor license holders permission to continue operating, even though they had sold liquor to minors.

Earlier this month, the Village Board denied liquor licenses for: Arbee's Liquor Inc., 4606 Douglas Ave., Racine; 7 mile Fredericks Food Mart, 7952 Hwy 41, Caledonia; Rudy's North, 3303 St. Paul St., Franksville; Pilot Travel Center, 13712; Northwestern Ave., Franksville; Sai Mart, 13600 7 Mile Rd., Caledonia.

The five businesses failed to ask for proof of age when a person under the age of 21 tried to buy alcohol. Two of the businesses - 7 mile Fredericks Food Mart and Pilot - had more than five violations in six years.

Last week the Legislative and Licensing Committee gave a stern talking to business owners and agents who failed compliance check, but approved all five licenses.

Kathy Burton voiced concerns about the license holders who had more that five violations in five years. She said if she was a parent of a child that bought alcohol from a business that had multiple violations for selling to minors and the Village hadn't revoked their license, she would be upset with the Village.

"That's what government is supposed to be -- is oversight," Burton said.
