The Sheriff’s deputy stopped a white Chevrolet truck, which Anderson was a passenger in, for not having a front license plate. While the deputy ran the VIN number, Anderson took off on foot. Law enforcement officials later saw a blue van, which was being driving by Anderson’s mother.

Deputies pinned their car against the door of the van to prevent Anderson's mother from getting out of the van. Another police officer from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department pulled in front of the van. The officer got out of the car and found Anderson hiding in the backseat.

When deputies interviewed Anderson's mother, she told them Matthew had called her asking for a ride, she picked him up and he told her to drive. She didn’t know Matthew had fled from the police or that they were looking for him, according to a report by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

Matthew told police he was sorry, that “it was a stupid thing for him” to run from the police and he had run because he had a warrant from the Department of Corrections.

Anderson is currently being held on a probation hold at the Racine County Jail.
