Caledonia Boy Offered A Ride Home, But Police Unsure Of Man's Intentions

Police are looking for information on the case.

A man offered a 14-year-old boy a ride at 3:15 p.m. July 25 at Max’s World Liquor & Grocery, 3217 Morris St.

But Caledonia Police aren’t quite sure of the man’s intentions since the boy was carrying a bag full of groceries when he made the offer, said Investigator Lisa Seils.

“He might have been well meaning,” Seils said. “We’re not sure. The kid had a soda and bag of groceries, and he said, ‘It looks like you have your hands full.’”

Still, the case is being treated as a child enticement case.

The man asked the boy if he needed a ride. The boy refused and said the man said he had to let his daughter’s dog out, who lives in Racine.

The boy ran home and told his mother what had happened. Police searched the area and sent out a tele-type about the incident to area law enforcement agencies.

Seils said she re-interviewed the boy and his mother this week, and they now have a better physical description.

The boy described the man as being in his late 50s or early 60s. He either had a dark complexion or is very tan. His hair receded on the top and sides, but it was curly, and salt and pepper colored.

“He also had some facial stubble, and wore a dark-colored button-collared shirt that was very dirty,” Seils said. “And he drove a white Dodge Intrepid, that has the rear hubcap missing off the driver’s side.”

There had been other incidents of child enticements in Racine and suburban Milwaukee, but they aren’t connected, Seils said. “At this point we have a dormant case.”
