Caledonia Finance Committe Recommends Building Upgrades To Police Station

Village Board will likely take up the issue at the next meeting.

Caledonia, WI - The Village Board Finance Committee met on Tuesday and approved plans to remodel the Police Department building.

The purpose of the upgrade is to make better use of space and improve security.

Police Chief Toby Schey and Sgt. Dan Warren, who prepared the plan, reported that the project will be funded by capital project money and funds leftover from a radio upgrade project.

The project’s first phase, estimated at $22,775, includes removing the carpet and flooring tile that contains asbestos, installing new flooring, replacing electrical outlets, installing programmable door locks, removing the old radio console, adding new ceiling lights and installing smoke detectors.

In other phases of the remodeling, two holding cells will be converted to space for the computer servers, a radio scanner and speakers will be installed throughout the building and the current hodgepodge of furniture will be replaced by a combination of used and new office furniture.
