Caledonia Firefighters Spend Hours Dousing Semi-Tractor Fire

The rig was full of paper towels.

Caledonia Firefighters, Bob Berens and Jason Hempel, had to cut open the front section of a semi-tractor that was on fire and full of paper towels at 11:24 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 in the parking lot of the Pilot gas station, 13712 Northwestern Ave.

Jeff Henningfeld, the battalion chief, said the fire was started by an auxiliary heater. The driver was asleep when someone noticed the fire and woke the driver up, but he escaped. Firefighters had to remove all of the paper towels to put the fire out.

No one was injured in the blaze.
