According to reports by the , Officer Robert Lyle initiated a traffic stop on Schurian after he noticed his license plates were expired and because he knew Schurian had driven without a license in the past. However, Schurian failed to stop, was driving his car in excess of 80mph and had to avoid hitting a car in front of him going northbound on Novak Road. As Schurian approached a curve on Six Mile Road going westbound, Lyle could hear the sound of Schurian’s tires squealing over the noise of his sirens. Schurian then had to go onto the gravel shoulder to go along the curve.

He then drove into his driveway at 2213 Six Mile Road, got out of his car and ran behind his house, where he went in the back door. When Lyle opened the door to the home, he saw Schurian’s mother and two small children. Lyle asked where Schurian went and, according to the report, she would not cooperate with him.

“The children were staring at something from the kitchen… I believed they were watching him as he climbed out a front window,” Lyle stated in the report.

Other officers arrived on scene and witnesses told the police they saw Schurian exit the window of the house. Police searched for Schurian as he ran through several yards.

Officer Anthony Tempesta reported that he chased Schurian and ordered him to stop, but he began to run again and went into a house at 2505 Iris Ct. When police got to the home, they heard a woman say “the cops are here” and everyone in the house went inside and closed all of the doors and windows.

“The lone male was behind a fenced in yard and refused to allow us into the area,” Tempesta wrote in his report.

Schurian turned himself in Thursday evening. After he was read his rights, Schurian requested a lawyer and police were unable to ask any questions.  He was then taken into police custody on a probation hold at the Racine County Jail. His bail has been set at $18,100.

Schurian is expected to have a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Aug. 18.
